Food For Thought

About Jermit

The Cook

I’m a college student studying engineering and chemistry, I play saxophone and bass (yes, in that order), and I cook to make a living/have fun with life.

The Equipment

All of the goodness you see on this site is made in my half galley kitchen that’s about the size of a typical walk in closet. I don’t have any fancy cookware, or gadgets or anything that can’t easily be found at a Target or a Bed Bath & Beyond, so everything seen here is made knowing that anyone can do it!!

All photos and recipes on this site were taken or created by me, unless otherwise noted. I use a simple point & shoot, Casio Exilim 7.2 Megapixel camera to take the photos. I sometimes edit the photos using Picasa 3, from Google, but generally only make the lighting better so the food is actually visible; I am a firm believer that the way things look naturally is the best way they can possibly look. With this in mind, if anyone wants to donate a DSLR camera to the cause, I will not be opposed. ;)

Getting Started

When I was in kindergarten, I would always “help” my Mom whenever she baked for a holiday or made dinner for company. Watching her bake and cook made me want to do the same, because whenever the guests came, they were always happy and had fun. Around the time I was eight, my sister taught me how to make honey mustard chicken, and that was the first thing I ever “cooked”. Since that day, I have been learning and trying new recipes and techniques to hone my skills.

I want you all to keep in mind, no one is perfect. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, and you should expect to make some of your own. I’ve even cut and burned myself a number of times. Don’t be afraid!! If I was afraid of being wrong or making mistakes, I would not have done most of the things I have done. Cooking is all about confidence, so even if something comes out not as well as you’d planned, as long as you serve it proudly it will be welcomed (and trust me, I have experience here). Oh and also, I put these recipes here for people to recreate and make their own, so please take them and get cooking!! Comment and let me know what you did too. :D
